Kathryn’s Gee’s Bend quilts (by Glynnis Ritchie)
Kathryn Tucker Windham, an Alabama treasure and nationally recognized storyteller, passed away this morning at age 93. When visiting at her home in 2005, she told us of plans to be wrapped in her two Gee’s Bend quilts and buried in a pine box made by a friend.
Obit here. More info here and here. Here’s an audio story about her 90th birthday celebration. She will be sorely missed!

I have been meaning to go out and meet her since I moved to Alabama 2 years ago. I regret that I never took the chance to do so. She sure was an incredible storyteller!
