Above are some screengrabs of the final logo for an initiative I’ve been involved in called Black Belt Bamboost. I created the logo in collaboration with Megan Deal and Naomi Shadix. Here is some info about the project, written by Marcy Koontz.

Black Belt Bamboost was created as a result of the efforts of Marsha Folsom, Jackie Henricher and Mary Jolley, during the spring of 2010, to establish relationships and partnerships within the state of Alabama in order to bring viable industry and resources into an economically depressed area known as the Black Belt Region.

This project is community driven, and creative and educational in scope which could provide interesting opportunities for the public to become involved. It could provide a platform for bringing diverse groups together. And it could be used as a complementary asset to both one acre test plantings of Moso bamboo at The University of Alabama and The University of West Alabama.

A variety of bamboo species will be planted on land owned by Friends of Historic Northport in the Van de Graaff Arboretum and Historic Bridge Park, in association with doLAB.

Black Belt Bamboost will feature a variety of bamboo and provide citizens and other organizations with an opportunity to explore the history, future and creative uses of bamboo. In addition to bamboo, plans include an outdoor meeting and community gathering space, an organic garden, and a dog park. The hope is that this will become an active an engaged area in the Northport community.

Through this process, it is believed Black Belt Bamboost will: boost our community’s bamboo awareness, economy, education, and creativity.
