I have been freelancing full-time now for almost 7 months. It was difficult at first, as it is with any new endeavor. But I honestly feel really content with my current position, and very fortunate because all of the exciting projects I have been able to work on in such a short time. Most of my clients are out of state, some one-time commissions, but most of my working relationships occur through email (occasionally Google chat). But the local projects I’ve been working on— now those are special. One of those projects is for the start-up family farm, Mockingbird Farm. They are simply fantastic people and their work is truly inspiring. It’s such a novelty to me now to be able to actually meet face to face with clients. So a couple days ago I went down to the farm to go over the latest logo concepts and brand elements (some shown above, along with a note from them thanking me), and we ended up having a great home-cooked meal and conversations that went on for hours. I’m so happy to be working with them! On a side note, part of the meal was chicken that they had raised on the farm. I’ve been mostly vegetarian now for a couple years, but made a (hesitant) exception for this locally raised animal. It was… interesting. :)
